All I Know Is I'm Alive
So, as you can tell from the title of this email, this week's been a little crazy...
To begin with, I started the week taking a trip alone to Juiz de Fora for a meeting with all the district leaders, which was awesome! While we were there, we had lunch at presidents house. The food he made was so American! It was tacos with doritos, AND they had guacamole, which is not very common here in Brasil, it was delicious!!!
This is where my week takes a turn, I got back on the bus, which is only like a 5 hour bus ride, but I'm all alone, there's probably like only 7 other people on the bus, but no other missionaries with me. Most of the ride was really chill, I slept alot, and just waited to get back. But the last 3 minutes of the ride were definitely the craziest, I got a call from another missionary who lives in the city where I was headed, and he asked me how far away I was. (This Elder is American, so we were speaking in English.) I told him I'm like 2 minutes away, and the second I started speaking in English the man in front of me, who I could already tell was pretty crazy, jumped straight up into the air, spun 180°, landed back on his chair facing me, started screaming something I didn't understand, and threw his hand to my neck to start choking me. Honestly I don't remember too much that happened after that, I just remember telling the missionary I was on the phone with "hurry, help me, help me". Then I pushed him away. The man then left to the back of the bus screaming at me. Luckily I'm ok; I left with just a little bruise on my neck!
Then we only had 3 days to work in our area, and recently we've been struggling to find new people who are ready to accept the gospel. We decided for these three days were gonna work so hard to find 10 new people. So, we spent every single spare moment we had doorknocking, and honestly found a bunch of people!!! We haven't been able to visit them again sadly, but next week we'll be able to reach them again.
And lastly, on Saturday evening, my right eye started to get really puffed up, and I wasn't sure why. So I do what any normal person would do, and slept it off. Well, the next day was Sunday, and we had church, my eye was even bigger, so everyone in church was asking me about it. I had no idea what it was so I just said I think it's a spider bite. So later in the day after lunch, we decided it would be good to go to the hospital, and turns out I have a huge infection on the side of my face which is making my eye huge, and hurt a ton. But luckily they gave me medicine and it should go away in 3 days.
Em fim, this is what I've learned from this week:
God is always here helping us. In each of the situations that I shared w/ you I've been able to see the Lords hand, and the more I see it in the small things, the more I see it in general.
Miracles happen, especially when we are willing to put the work in. God is always willing and wanting to help us. We just need to prove to him we're ready for his help.
Love you all, Happy Thanksgiving!
PS. Please eat an extra plate of food for me!!
